Vintage men’s shirt to women’s blouse | refashion

before and after.jpg

I found this vintage men’s shirt in a Red Cross shop for $5. What I liked about the shirt was the print, buttons and feel of the fabric. I just returned from a holiday in Vietnam and as part of my holiday wardrobe I made this tie-front button-up midi dress (yes, that sounds like a lot going on in one dress). I designed it myself and used my Singer dress form for the first time to drape and draft the pattern! It even has a pocket!!

After sewing my first men’s shirt for my grandpa by using an old shirt of his, I wanted to try using an actual pattern with instructions. When making my grandfather’s shirt, I found I was unsure about how some of the components were sewn together. Such as the yoke and the sleeve placket. I wanted to find a proper pattern with instructions to learn the correct techniques.

I wanted to make my boyfriend a shirt this time around. When looking online I couldn’t find many fashionable and modern men’s shirt sewing patterns out there. Until I came across Mimi G’s Simplicity 8427. It is a slim fit button up shirt with variations for the cuff and collar style. Continue reading “Men’s fitted shirt – Simplicity 8427 pattern review”
